About Down to Earth
Hi, I’m Mike. A Rhode Island-based photographer who’s passionate about capturing life’s beautiful, unscripted stories. I specialize in lifestyle photography for families, couples, and all the meaningful moments in between. To me, every person, every connection, every moment has a story, and I’m honored to help tell it through honest, heartfelt imagery.
My journey with photography started as a teenager, fascinated by the details of the world around me. Shots of my pets, light painting, landscapes, stills. Like many first passions, life pulled me away from it for a while. But when I picked up the camera again years later, something clicked. I found a deeper purpose in photographing real people and real stories. It started with friends and family. Documenting the laughter, the quiet, the chaos, and all the love in their lives. Now, I bring that same care and attention to every client I work with. Your story deserves to be captured with just as much heart.
The name Down to Earth comes from something my grandmother used to say to me as a kid, “Earth to Michael!”, which was said whenever my head was in the clouds. It always made me laugh, but it stuck with me. That gentle nudge to stay present is the same energy I bring to every session. My shoots are easygoing, relaxed, and natural. I’ll guide you lightly when needed, but my goal is to capture you as you are (messy, joyful, candid, and real). Life isn’t perfect, and I believe that’s exactly what makes it worth remembering.
When I’m not behind the lens, I’m serving as a firefighter, hanging out with my wife and dog, or diving into one of my many hobbies, from nerdy obsessions to hands-on projects. In that, being a firefighter has shaped how I approach everything in life, especially photography. It’s taught me how to stay calm under pressure, pay attention to the details, and show up fully for the people who count on me. I bring that same mindset into every session, whether it’s scouting a location, understanding your needs, or simply making sure you feel at ease.
At the end of the day, I want the people I photograph to walk away with something timeless. I want them to have images that take them right back to a moment.
